I explained to them the importance of giving your eyes a break from looking at books, toys, screens or only looking as far as to what was inside of the house. I explained to them that we need to flex our eye muscles to have them be strong. Looking outside while driving was very healthy, and there was much beauty in looking farther.
How many times in our daily life do we look so closely at our family/homelife that we forget to look up and from a distance? There is so much beauty in the journey, not only in the destination!
Looking farther helps us to gain a new perspective on our current circumstances. Maybe we are standing too close to the situation to see the answers. Maybe we are frustrated and weary with every little detail not working the way we expected them to work. But we forget that even a cuckoo clock has many little parts that work together to keep the time on time. If we only look at one gear and notice it’s not working we will lose the perspective of the other parts working together until it is that part’s turn to move.
I challenge you to take a moment from your situation to look up, to look farther, and to see the beauty that you may have missed. May you strengthen your physical eyes when you look farther and strengthen the eyes of your understanding when you step back for a moment.
Enjoy the ride!
Devotional verse:
“that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power”
(Ephesians 1:17-19 NKJV)

ReplyDeleteThis is such a great reminder to look up from the million little tasks that we have to do every day, and take a breath and enjoy the view! Thank you for the challenge, and the encouragement!
