I hit a breaking point on Friday night. I had enough of the quarantine isolation. I had enough of feeling helpless. I had enough of not bring able to see my daughter, my precious girl. I wanted to see my parents with my real eyes. Staying indoors, strictly communicating with my loved ones through my phone on video or voice chats was very difficult for this ambivert’s heart to navigate. I liked the excuse not participating in activity after activity, appointment after appointment. But I was missing the human interaction. Home was my sanctuary, but quickly was feeling like it was becoming my prison.
It was day 15 of the Coronavirus Quarantine, and I was not sick. So I made a brave call to my ex to let him know I wanted to drive the 2 hours to his place to pick up my 12 year old daughter. He didn’t protest but he had extended her visit with him during the quarantine as to not spread the virus in case they had it. My heart longed to have all 4 walking pieces of my heart together, under one roof.
I called up my parents and asked if they could watch my dog while I drove the 5 hours to execute my mission. They were excited to see my pup. When I came into their house, I was so relieved to see them with my own eyes. I couldn’t touch them, and kept 6 feet away from each of them as I got my pup some food and water but that was ok. My heart felt better knowing my parents were ok and seeing it with my eyes, not just on video.
I then began the 2 hour trek with my 3 boys. When I got to the major highway (3 lanes each side), and I sped up to 100km/h, I let out this HUGE shout. I felt every cell in my body come alive! FINALLY some semblance of normal!! I absolutely love driving. It’s part of who I am. Being on the 400 highway heading towards Toronto was part of my identity. It’s so hard to describe.
All of those lies of hopelessness and despair started flying off of me as if I were without a windshield and being directly in the wind. As I was headed on a mission to have all my chicks under one roof, I had no idea I was going to experience such healing and deliverance. We obeyed the rule of 6 feet of social distancing between my family and others, yet felt so free!
My boys and I rocked out to TobyMac and For King & Country in our van really loudly. We chose our music instead of the radio. We fed our minds and souls with positive messages. We were together. We were dancing in our seats. It was so healing!
I loved picking up my daughter but I’m sure in those 15 days she grew an inch! When we were home, all 5 of us in my tiny livingroom, all playing games together on Roblox, I couldn’t stop smiling. My family was together. Everyone was ok. I was ok.
I’m ready now, with fresh strength to take on the rest of this quarantine. Together.

I can relate to your experience only because here in Melbourne we had very strict, very long lockdowns off and on over the space of a couple of years. What a joy for you to have your family with you in such a ‘pressure cooker’ situation.
